MEASURING YOUR HORSE

You measure a horse's height in hands. Each hand equals four inches. If you say a horse is 16.2 hands high, the 2 stands for 2 fingers. Height varies with breed. A pony is any horse under 14.2 hands. Unit of measure for the height of a horse, taken from the bottom of the front hoof to the top of the withers. One hand is equal to 4 inches.
